Broadcast Tower
Reader CommentsThis is almost a photo in history. It is not a broadcast tower in the radio TV sense. It is a microwave radio relay tower
Posted 2/26/2006 7:49:24 PM by Peterjay -in Citrus County, FL This is an AT&T Long Lines microwave relay tower placed in service about 1955 on the Atlanta to Jacksonville, FL backbone route. It was originally equipped with Western Electric model TD-2 equipment operating in the 4 gHz common carrier band. The Long Lines Department was disolved when the AT&T Co was forced to divest by the U.S. Dept of Justice on Jan 01, 1984 causing the Bell Stytem to vaporize. The world's best communication system was fragmented and moved the job of providing and trouble shooting the home & business telephone systems to you the subscriber. Some say that the divestiture stimulated competition and drove down prices of local and long distance communications service. In Late 2005, the AT&T Co. was acquired by SBC Communications, the former Bell System (baby bell) Southwestern Bell Co., and SBC knew that the AT&T name had recognition worldwide so they kept the famous AT&T name and changed the 1984 post divesture logo (known in the trade as the Death Star) just a little. Truly a picture of history. Add your commentsPlease keep your comments relevant to this page. Inappropriate comments may be removed. Email addresses are never displayed.
